Originally published in 1899, every page has one or two Victorian photographs taken in locations across the British Empire. Some of the photographs here were taken purely for the record. However, even they manage to attain a high standard, while others, in choice of subject, composition and tonal quality, are no less than spectacular.

The photographs are collected together under general topics arranged as chapters. These include Her Majesty's Mails and Telegraphs; A Record of the Jubilee, 1897; the Education of the Empire; Trade of the Empire; How the Queen's writ runs and how the peace is kept; Captials and chief cities; Enigneering triumphs; Natural scenery; Customs and ceremonies; and Places of historical interest. There are also a few supplementary illustrations of army and naval activities.

The data is in PDF format and each photograph is complete with a descriptive caption giving interesting background information. However, unless you recognise someone in the photographs, you won't get any genealogical information from these pictures. Of course, you'll gain some insight into Victorian governance, society and trade across the globe.
