The War Illustrated

'What is the British Navy doing?'

This issue of The War Illustrated (Volume 1, number 20, 2 January 1915) contains an article written by the well known naval expert, Fred T Jane, which takes a critical look at the public's attitude to the perceived lack of action by the British Navy in the early months of war.

To explain his viewpoint, Jane makes analogies with a football match and a theatrical piece, thereby attempting to quell any doubts that the public may have about the capabilities of the British Navy.

The boxed set of The War Illustrated, containing all nine volumes (234 issues), costs £39.95 plus £2.50 p&p from www.genealogysupplies.com - individual volumes are also available.
