This data CD from S&N contains a collection of lists edited by John Camden Hotten, late of the Heraldic Institute and the extensive database has records of people, mainly 'Persons of Quality', who emigrated from Great Britain to America between 1600 and 1700. It also includes others making the journey, such as religious exiles, political rebels, prisoners, women and children, giving forenames and surnames.

The main details given include the port of sailing and destination, the name of the ship they embarked on, the year of travel, and where the individual was from, and their age is given in some instances. Whole family groups can be found on some of the lists.

There is a list of 'grants' and commissions granted by the King for official posts, duties or portions of land. For example, one was for the sole trade of beaver pelts and the skins of other wild beasts. Another was a grant to salvage all wrecks in a certain area. The CD includes lists of all those living in Virginia and the parish records of Barbados.

The data is easy to navigate, is searchable by name or part name and can be bookmarked and printed. I found it a marvellous source of American emigrant information - everything from lists of musters and lists of land, to lists of convicted rebels with details of their age and trade. It made very interesting reading and if you are looking for early Colonial emigrants, then this is one for you.
