Preserving your Family History with Multimedia
This is a beginners' level tutorial on how to digitally preserve and enhance your audio, video and photo records, using common image software and hardware, so you can add them to your family tree software.
Somewhat suprisingly, it begins with the not-so-common job of transferring cine film to video. Apart from having this done professionaly, with the advantage of eliminating flicker, you can buy dedicated software and hardware to do it. However, the film looks at the comparatively primitive (though simple) method of directly filming your project 8mm/super 8 cine reels, including how to align projector and camera lenses to prevent distortion effects.
There are tips on scanning photo prints and slides as well as microfilm, including choosins resolution and file format and how to improve results using Photoshop Elements software. Copying audio tapes is covered, together with direct voice recording, using Windows sound recorder, which can also do simple editing, and choosing the appropriate file compression.
There are hints on improving your video composition and framing plus polishing your interview technique. Finally, using Personal Ancestral File as an example, you're shown how to add your multimedia files to your family tree software.
