Who's Who in the Theatre 1922

This directory comprises more than 1,300 pages of information about the theatre and those who worked in it. The section containing biographies of actors, actresses, critics and writers dominates, with the entry for Charles Spencer (Charlie) Chaplin being typical. This tells us that he was born in London on 16th April 1889, gives details of his parents, his marriage and his career, and notes his addresses in Los Angeles. His career synopsis mentions particular appearances, such as when he played the role of Billy in The Painful Predicament of Sherlock Holmes at the Duke of York's Theatre on 3rd October 1905.

This splendid volume also includes dozens of family trees of hereditary theatrical families, theatrical and musical obituaries, and a Roll of Honour for actors, musicians, writers and theatre workers who lost their lives in the First World War.

An essential volume for anyone with an interest in the historic arts or for those who know or suspect their forebears were on the stage.
