Originally published by the Scottish History Society in 1890, this indexed volume contains a brief introduction to the rebellion of 1745 and 1746. It then goes on to list the names of those men - about 2,000 or so - who were involved.

The details given for each individual include their name, designation or occupation, abode, county, the acts of rebellion committed and what hapenned to the person in question. Hence, Robert Allan, a servant from Aberdeen, carried arms at the Battle of Culloden, an act that saw him imprisoned in Old Aberdeen. Meanwhile, John Erskine, an Excise Officer, threatened to burn some houses in Dingwall "in order to force the possessors to go with him to the Rebel Service".

While this volume contains interesting information in itself, identifying an ancestor therein might open up all sorts of further research avenues.
