National Roll of the Great War-

Part of the S&N Great War Series, this CD includes the Names and Records of those from the Leeds area who served between 1914- 1919. This is just one volume from the massive roll of honour of British forces in the First World War. The National Publishing Company started to compile a brief biography of as many participants in the War as possible. Many of the entries refer to combatants who survived the war and the National Roll of Honour is the only detailed information readily available. It includes brief accounts of how they joined up, enrolment dates, ranks, medals and a general summary of service, actions and posts and demobilisation date. Other volumes available at present cover London, Bradford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Salford and Manchester.

Imperial Dictionary of Universal Biography

This massive 16 volume dictionary of biography, published around 1870, consists of a series of biographies, long and short, of distinguished men from all ages. It fills a massive three CDs and, although showing its age in a few places, is a great source if you want to know some general background about leading figures from the past.

Kent Census Bundle

Each month sees a new list of census releases from S&N British Data Archive and every county now has at least two census years available (1871 and 1891). The bundle recently released for the county of Kent contains the full 1841, 51, 61 and 1871 census. The current month’s other releases included the 1851 census for Hampshire, Somerset and Essex, and the 1861 census for Cambridgeshire, Cumberland, Westmorland and Suffolk. Individual census years cost from £24.95 to £49.95 depending on the county. Check the website for the current availability as more are constantly being produced.
