This guide is subtitled 'a short account of the churches and antiquities of the county, and of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln, commonly called the Minster'. It opens with a general description and history of Lincoln and Lincolnshire.

About half the text then concentrates on towns in the vicinity - Spalding, Boston, Peterborough, Grantham and Gainsborough - and describes their topography, notable buildings and places of interest. The remainder deals with the city itself: its streets, places of worship, literary institutions, charities, places of amusement, inns and hotels. The cathedral also features prominently, with lists of names - choristers, clergyman and even the ladies who worked the altar carpet are noted.

A county map, various appendices (including one detailing prominent Lincolnshire families), and an index complete an unusual volume.
