This book was originally published as the 'Old Shirburnian Navy & Army List 1914-1919', and contains an alphabetical list of nearly 2,000 men from Sherborne School, Dorset, who fought in the Great War. It details name, rank, regiment and military history including injuries sustained and awards received.

A typical entry is that for 2nd Lieutenant G H C Futcher, who attended Sherborne from 1905-07 and was in School House. He served in the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment), and from 1917 was a trooper in the 1st King Edward's Horse (The King's Overseas Dominions Regiment).

The volume concludes with a roll of honour which details some 200 staff and former pupils of the school who fell in the Great War.
