This war register was originally published as a book by Repton in 1920. It contains details of its staff and student who served in the army, navy or allied forces during World War I. Examination of the surname index suggests that well over 2,000 individuals are mentioned.

The detail contained within these entries varies enormously. While some contain a synopsis of the subject's military history, more typical is the entry of Henry Mortlock, who attended Repton from 1877 to 1883. He is described as a Captain in the 1st Herefordshire Regiment from October 1914 to October 1919, in which he was engaged on the "musketry staff".

The roll of honour and schedule of decorations awarded suggest that 445 honours were awarded to Old Reptonians for British service. However, more curiously, a further 98 Old Reptonians were recognised by overseas authorities, including those of Serbia, Romania, Egypt and China.
