East India Register and Directory 1805

East India Register and Directory 1805The East India Company was a huge organisation responsible for the British presence and trade with India and Asia until it was dissolved in 1874. This directory lists civil, military, and marine servants who worked for the company, both in the UK and overseas. The information on members of staff include names, dates of appointment, military rank and salary. Also, 'casualties' detail those men who had left the company - died, retired, resigned or were dismissed - in the previous year.

Suprisingly, many of the folks mentioned were situatued in the UK but the company had bases in Bengal, Bombay, Fort St George, Sumatra, Canton and St Helena, so this directory will appeal to those whose ancestors were merchants or had Indian or Far East connections.
