County Families of the United Kingdom 1880
The 20th edition of County Families of the United Kingdom was published in 1880 and was described as the 'Royal Manual of the Titles and Untitled Aristocracy of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland'.
A typical entry is that for George Herbert Morrell of Headington Hill Hall, Oxford. We are told that he was born in 1845 and was the eldest son of the Rev George Kidd Morrell, vicar of Moulsford. He married Emily Alicia in 1874, having been educated at Rugby and Exeter College, Oxford. He was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1871, was a magistrate and Lord of the Manor of Culham.

This volume contains biographies of all the officers of the British Army who fell in the first half of 1915. They are organised alphabetically, although preceded by an index on a regimental basis.
The digital enhancement means they are easily read.
The level of detail in each biography varies greatly. Some of the entries include a photographic portrait of the officer, and information on birth date, birth place, father's name, education, career and the circumstances of his death. The latter is often reported in graphic detail by quoting from eyewitness accounts.
On the other hand, the entry for Captain William King George of the 3rd Reserve Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment merely says that he was killed in action on 25th January.
