London 1871 Census Index

New London Census and Data Website

Three new and complete London Census Indexes were seen for the first time at the SOG fair; covering 1861, 1871 and 1891 (see above). All the census image sets for London from 1841-1901 have already been released with the exception of 1881, which will be available soon. To display this wealth of research information S&N have also launched a new site bringing together all their resources and information for London research.

They have also created a non-regional census site: www.ukcensusonline.co.uk

New London Census Indexes

The new S&N Index CDs use a Windows 98/ME/XP database program with improved search facilities to help you find your missing ancestors. You can use wildcard characters in your search to match any part of the name, and you can also see family groups relating to an entry. The CDs have a registration system which is designed to prevent piracy. When you first run the CD it will provide a code which is unique for your computer, this is used in combination with the CD’s serial number to register the index, which can be done over the phone or on the internet.

There are now complete name indexes available for London 1861, 1871 and 1891. They costs £19.95 per census, plus p&p, and there is a £5 discount for registered owners of the relevant S&N CD image sets. Mac users should be able to use a Windows emulator program such as Virtual PC, or can subscribe to the data online.

By the time you read this, these indexes should also all be available via subscription at their online service, www.thegenealogist.co.uk

They have also recently released many new census image sets- see all the counties and years now available at:
